What is Kahoot!

A Kahoot is a collection of questions on specific topics. Created by teachers, or even students, they are asked in real-time, to an unlimited number of “players”, creating a social, fun and game-like learning environment. We have used this several times in Staff Development sessions and Staff Meetings. And... unfortunately there is no app for Kahoot. It is entirely web-based.

It's pretty easy to create...

After you create your Kahoot! account at create.kahoot.it:

1. Choose whether you want to create a QUIZ, DISCUSSION or a SURVEY.
2. Add your questions.
3. Fill in your settings.
4. Add a cover image (If you want).
5. Play!! Send your students to kahoot.it to key in their game code!

I really like Kahoot! for creating interactive and fun quizzes which keeps students really engaged. I like that it has a vibe of healthy competition to it, because of the live results and polling feature. I also like the ease with which I can create quizzes. They can be accessed later too, and overall it is just a fun and easy to use interactive app. I found it really helpful. If you want to see my Kahoot!, click here.

PIXTON: everyone can make comics

                                                  PIXTON Pixton is a comic creation site (as well as Android and iOS app) where creators can both make and share their comic strips. It's simple to navigate. After teachers establish a classroom site, they receive codes to distribute to students. Students can join by entering the code or teachers can manually add students to their class page. After students create an avatar (in comic form, of course!), they follow the step-by-step comic creator to begin their graphic stories. Teachers can make a specific assignment, or let students create freely. Options include the number of panels and the layout of a page. Visual icons help students add artwork, backgrounds, and text bubbles to comics (students don't draw their own stuff here but pick from a bank of fun images). A handy link to video tu...

Pinterest is a social network that allows users to visually share, and discover new interests by posting (known as ‘pinning’ on  Pinterest) images or videos to their own or others’ boards (i.e. a collection of ‘pins,’ usually with a common theme) and browsing what other users have pinned. Using a visual orientation, the social network is very much focused on the concept of a person’s lifestyle, allowing you to share your tastes and interests with others and discovering those of likeminded people. The social network’s goal is to “connect everyone in the world through the ‘things’ they find interesting.” Users can either upload images from their computer or pin things they find on the web using the Pinterest bookmarklet. Here is my Pinterest Pin. I also used  Piktochart  to prepare my Pinterest Pin.

Seesaw  The Learning Journal provides opportunities for students -- and teachers -- to really think outside the box. Students can show their work and thought processes in real time by submitting a video of themselves working through a math problem, snapping a picture of a paragraph they wrote, recording themselves reading a poem, or uploading a file to demonstrate their learning. Encourage kids to submit a series of images along with notes that tell the story that connects them. Or let kids collaborate with each other using peer-to-peer feedback to offer suggestions on writing content, scientific hypotheses, or creative ideas.
